Employment Supports to People with a Disability:
The Workability Immersion Programme:
The primary purpose of the Workability Immersion Programme is to help people with disabilities to access employment, including self-employment, or education and training, improving their employment prospects.
The Immersion Programme incorporates a strong focus on employer engagement; raising employers' awareness and building their capacity to recruit, retain and progress people with disabilities in their workforce. Eligibility for the WorkAbility Programme requires individuals to self-identify as having a disability under Irish legislation, be aged 16 or older with no upper age limit.
Buíon Phort Láirge is proud to have sponsored Understanding Neurodivergence in the Workplace: Employer Support Pack – 2026 Edition, compiled by Dungarvan & West Waterford Chamber. This practical guide helps employers of all sizes understand neurodiversity and support neurodivergent employees in a realistic and proportionate way. It includes adjustment checklists, a workplace adjustment agreement template, a legal snapshot of employer responsibilities under Irish law, a manager quick guide, case studies and information on available employment supports.
The three videos below feature clients who have taken part in the Workability Programme and, with its support, have secured paid employment. In their own words, they describe their journey into work and the supports they received along the way, from training and job preparation to ongoing in-work support. Their stories show what is possible when individuals and employers work together to create inclusive employment opportunities.

Tús Work Placement Programme:
What is Tús?
Tús is a community work placement initiative that offers work experience with community and voluntary organisations. It is generally open to people aged 18 or over who have been unemployed and receiving a qualifying jobseeker’s payment for at least 12 months. People receiving Disability Allowance may be eligible to self-refer without meeting the 12-month requirement. Placements can be offered through Department of Social Protection referrals or self-referral, subject to eligibility and available places.
What will I gain from a Tús placement?
A Tús placement offers you 19.5 hours work per week for 12 months. You can gain practical experience, develop skills and confidence, and receive support from a Tús Supervisor. Participants will receive a monetary gain to their present Social Welfare payment.
How do I get a Tús placement?
You may be referred by the Department of Social Protection. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can also contact our Tús team to ask about self-referral and available placements. The team can explain the process and help you find out whether a placement is suitable for you.
How can my organisation host a Tús participant?
Community and voluntary organisations can contact John Barrett 087 1956342 to discuss hosting a participant(s). Tell us about your organisation, the work you would like support with and the experience you can offer. We will explain the requirements and discuss whether a placement would be suitable.
